Community Service is one of the Three Pillars of Higher Education. The task of the Master of Laws Study Program is not only to carry out education and research but also to ensure the application of the knowledge and research results to benefit communities in Batam City through community services. Since 2018, the Coastal Village of Tebing Tinggi in Rempang Cate District, Batam City has been an assisted village (Desa Binaan) of Postgraduate Study of Law, Universitas Internasional Batam. The community service in this village was started by the Batch 12 students. The students and the Australian Government under the Direct Aid Program donated a drilled well for a public purpose since it was difficult to obtain water in the village. The community service activity is continued by the Batch 13 students. On 25 August 2019, two lecturers (Rina Shahriyani Shahrullah and Haeruddin) and the Batch 13 students conducted observations and interviews to determine the sustainable activities to be implemented in the village. Based on the results of observations and interviews, the physical and non-physical activities that can be carried out for the community service activities are: providing street lights along the roads, improvement of the Mushollah building, construction an ablution facility, facilitating a reading space for kids, advocacy on cleanliness, advocacy on the Indonesian Healthy Card and Fishermen Cards, training women on hydroponics for vegetable crops, and facilitating the reading of the Qur’an for women and children. The students will select some of the said activities which will be conducted from September 2019 – January 2020.
